Supporting PGRs with writing

This session helps research supervisors reflect on how they support doctoral candidates with writing. Writing is a fundamental part of the doctoral journey, yet it often presents emotional, motivational, and structural challenges. The session encourages peer learning amongst research supervisors and introduces a practical framework for analysing writing issues and developing effective support strategies.

Learning objectives

By the end of the session, research supervisors will:

  • Understand the range of challenges doctoral candidates may face when writing

  • Use a practical framework to identify and analyse writing barriers

  • Explore tailored strategies to support writing development across different contexts
