This session invites supervisors to reflect on their role. Metaphorical images of office spaces illustrate different supervisory styles, sparking group discussion on how PGRs might experience their approach. The distinction between process- and product-oriented supervision highlights the PhD as a learning journey. Finally, a pedagogical and a flow model are introduced to support more intentional and educationally informed supervision.

Learning objectives

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • reflect on and get insight into their supervisory identity and practices

  • gain self-awareness of how their PGRs perceive their supervisory style

  • acknowledge PGR supervision as a pedagogical role.
