Supporting Candidates' Research
This is the part of supervision most people picture first: shaping the research, reading drafts, unsticking problems. It runs from selecting the right candidate for the right project through to preparing them for examination. The through-line is judgement — knowing when to push, when to hold back and when to change direction.
